Calcium Bromate, Ca(BrO3)2.H2O

Calcium Bromate, Ca(BrO3)2.H2O, is obtained by the neutralisation of bromic acid with either the hydroxide or the carbonate of calcium, or by the electrolytic oxidation of calcium bromide. It forms mono- clinic crystals isomorphous with strontium and barium bromates. It is soluble in an equal weight of cold water. At 180° C. the bromate loses its water of crystallisation, and at a still higher temperature it gives up oxygen and forms the bromide. The density of the bromate is 3.329.
