Calcium Cyanate, Ca(CNO)2

Calcium Cyanate, Ca(CNO)2, may be prepared in the electric furnace by heating together limestone and carbon, first at 1500° C., then at 2500° C., in presence of nitrogen, and, finally, at the latter temperature in a current of air. It is obtained in solution by passing the vapour of cyanic acid into milk of lime, but cannot be separated by crystallisation. It has been proposed as a nitrogenous manure.
